Structural Report

Structural Designs, Reports and Inspections

Siga Feature Project - August 2016
Structural Designs, Reports and Inspections
Project: New Large Residence - Eastern Sydney

Thought we would feature a brief update on this project which we first brought to you in April this year.

Some of the challenges have been:

  • Heritage compliance requirements
  • Retaining an existing structure
  • Overland flow paths and drainage requirements
  • Site foundation material limitations

The following photos show some of the interesting challenges on this project:

Structural Report - Remediation

Project: Industrial - Western Sydney

The concrete retaining wall to this industrial development has rotated from its original position.

What has caused this rotation? What should be done as an initial make safe? What are the initial expected remedial procedures?

The make safe alone requires careful attention involving propping, interference with turning circles and restrictions of access.

I'll keep you posted with the progress of this project.

Structural Inspection - Certification

Project: Residential - Western Sydney

Inspections are often routine to large residential dwelling/house waffle raft slab footing reinforcement. When the steel reinforcement was inspected for this project, it produced a number of challenges greater than normally expected.

One of the most significant was the pods needed to be aligned – you may be able to tell in the first photo below.

The pods and other items were instructed to be fixed prior to approval. All part of the service.

Structural Report - Residential (city)

Structural Report
Project: Residential – City

When contemplating renovations, at what point can a building’s existing structure be considered no longer viable to repair and better off being completely replaced?

In this project, consideration was given to termite damage, water damage, poor initial construction and age related deterioration and faults.

Complete renewal and replacement of the main structure was considered to be the most cost effective solution.

Structural Certification / Assessment
Project: Commercial - Western Sydney

The procedure for assembling the structural steel frames to the façade support structures to this project required certification for safety reasons.

Siga’s role was to check and certify the proposed assembly procedure.

Stormwater Damage

Structural Report
Project: Industrial - Western Sydney

Pouring concrete? Need to leave formwork in place over the weekend? Make sure it’s not a drainage pit blocking stormwater lines and be sure to check the weather forecast as a storm might be brewing.

There was a huge mess to be cleaned up on Monday morning at this job. Storm water that should have flowed through these storm water pipes ended up through a 1000sqm+ industrial building and lower level mezzanine.

There are issues of cleaning, lost time and productivity to deal with, as well as determining and proving who is responsible.

Structural Design & Inspections
Project: New large residence - Eastern Sydney

Residential Structural Inspection

As with most projects the challenges are often hidden and many prior to starting the job.

Some of these challenges to date:

  • Heritage compliance requirements
  • Retaining an existing structure
  • Overland flow paths and drainage requirements
  • Site foundation material limitations

These were a few of the main issues we've assisted with.

The concrete to the ground floor slab was poured earlier this year – We’ll track and share its progress with you.
